GRADE 5/6 Track
Our grade 5/6 students are currently in our Grade 5/6 Track. Here is what it’s all about…
During Grades 5 and 6 we often see students progress from knowing about Jesus and the Bible to knowing Jesus personally and owning their faith; meaning they have or are seeking a growing, personal relationship with Jesus. They are ready for deeper concepts and discussions about Biblical truths, and we believe in equipping our kids to live a Christ-centered life in the context they find themselves in our present day. The transition from Grade 6 to 7 in our present school system is huge, and this is the age where the highest drop off in church engagement (up to 50%) occurs in churches all across Canada – our church is no different with this stat. Many of our Grade 6’s each year have not made the transition to youth, and we are not OK with that. Therefore, we have taken into consideration these factors:
- Grade 5-6 kids are rapidly changing physically, emotionally, socially, intellectually, psychologically and spiritually. They need a more intentional approach with teaching, discussion, healthy peer and mentoring relationships can help them navigate all of these changes as well as be equipped to live a Christian lifestyle within our present society.
- We want to help minimize the trauma of transition by transitioning our kids to youth one year earlier than the school system. This way they are comfortably settled in their youth context, building what we hope to be their closest friendships, led by young adult mentors and Pastors that will carry them through for years.
- The Sunday morning youth class will become a weekly experience so the youth department will have an effective investment in our grade 6-8 students both on Sunday mornings and Tuesday nights.
